<p>Hot appts. of machines, esp. turbines, are thermally insulated by forming 2 layers(a, b) of glass wool gauze round the machine. The outer layer(b) is pref. easy to remove, and has thickness 40-70 mm. Before applying the inner layer, the machine may be covered by an aluminium silicate layer(z), at least on the parts which have a temp. >500 degrees C. Layer(z) is pref. 20-30 mm thick, and applied using a heat-resistant adhesive. After applying layer(a), a layer of aluminium foil may be wrapped round layer(a) before applying layer(b). Esp. for use on turbines as an alternative to a sprayed asbestos coating.</p> |
