The door handle for a motor vehicle has a body held by a flexible spacer on the door outer panel. The profiled spacer (10) has parts forming stops for the handle (7). The profiled spacer (10) has, on its front side (11) facing the handle body (5) as well as on its rear surface which is held against door outside panel (2), parts for contacting the handle in both end positions. The profiled spacer (10) has, on its front face (11) holding lugs (12) entering into opening (13) of the handle body (5). The free heads (14) of the lugs are used for contacting the handle in closed position. The handle step (16) contacts the flat rear surface of the spacer when the handle is fully open.
