Pultruded GRP components are produced by (a) coating numerous continuous filaments under tension with a liquid thermosetting resin at a temp. below its curing temp., and (b) passing them through successive radiant heaters, each with >=1 heated surface, at a distance from the coated material, then through >=1 relatively narrow cold die between successive heaters, the resin being heated each time sufficiently both to reduce its viscosity to below the level at which it entered the heater concerned and also to commence to cure. The coated filaments are drawn through each die and the dies are below the curing temp. At least one die follows the last heater and the resin here (or earlier) reaches its gel point. The process has low energy consumption, and the matl. is cleaned when entering into dies. It is suitable for various fibres and combinations, also for various profiles.
|
