The vehicle roof panel is swung open after securing catches are released with a removable handle (13). The handle fits into the catch via a special keyway which prevents the handle from being removed with the catch in an intermediate position. The edge of the catch has a flange which fits over the profiled key of the handle. The handle can only be removed with the catch in either of its end positions. This ensures that the panel is secured in the open or fully closed setting, and that it does not suddenly fly open after being closed.
