Hollow HV power cable designed for optional cooling - permits introduction of coolant tube if cable load increases after long period of use

An internally cooled high voltage cable is constructed in the form of a hollow conductor with a cooling tube led through it in which the diameter of the central hollow part of the conductor (1) is 1. 1 to 1, 5 times greater than the external diameter of the cooling tube (5). A heat transfer medium may be used to fill the gap between the outer wall of the cooling pipe and the inner wall of the conductor. This arrangement permits the setting up of the cable without the cooling tube, and the subsequent drawing of the cooling tube if the load on the cable increases after a period of use so that cooling becomes necessary.
