A lifting unit includes an open ended shell into which concrete is poured. A carrier supports the shell and can be elevated to form a structure as the material poured into it eventually sets. An arm has opposite end portions and transversely spans the structure. The carrier is pivoted to the arm between opposite end portions. A first pair of relatively telescopically movable inner and outer members are connected to a first of end portions outboard of the structure. The inner and outer members have axes in general tangential external relationship to the structure. The inner and outer members are moved telescopically relative to each other and toward and away from the structure.
