[Also in Division F2] A motor-vehicle brake system having an hydraulic pedal-operated disc brake has an independent manually - operated mechanical parking brake formed as a band brake 15, 16 arranged within a limited slip bevel gear differential casing to act on a crown wheel flange 6 of a planet wheel carrier 3, the brake band 15 being connected at its spaced ends (Fig. 5, not shown) to a lever 11, cable operated at (14) from a driver's hand lever (17a), Fig. 3 (not shown). The limited slip differential lock may comprise a coned clutch disc 8 splined via an intermediate flange 10 to a half-shaft 12, and spring-biased at 9 into frictional engagement with a corresponding coned recess in the flange 6 of the planet wheel carrier 3 or, in Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) radially movable wedge-shaped shoe segments (23) carried by a flange (50) of the planet carrier (3a) are spring- biased at (45) into engagement with a V-grooved flange (22) splined on the half-shaft (1b), which spring pressure is reinforced by rollers (46) co-operating between camming surfaces (47, 48) in the shoe segments (23) and flange (50) respectively. Fig. 7 (not shown) illustrates a tandem axle arrangement in which the hand lever cable operates band brakes arranged within each axle unit.
