1516667 Escalator handrails INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 4 June 1975 [5 June 1974] 24045/75 Heading B8A [Also in Division B5] An extruded escalator handrail 1, has a C-shaped cross-section 2 which is extruded from elastomeric or plastics material incorporating longitudinally extending co-planar threads or cords 3, and a fabric covering 4 extending around the concave surface, and optionally the facing ends of the section. The handrail 1 is extruded around the cords 3 and fabric 4 from a cross-head die 5, (see Division B4-5) having flow guiding surfaces for the material. which ensure that it is applied to the fabric 4 in a direction having a component perpendicular to the C-shape, to thereby apply tension to the fabric 4 to avoid the formation of folds therein.
