1516588 Polygalactomannan sulphohydroxypropyl ethers CELANESE CORP 10 Nov 1976 [17 Nov 1975] 46723/76 Heading C3U Sulphohydroxypropyl ethers of polygalactomannan gums are prepared by contacting the gum with 3-halo-2-hydroxypropanesulphonic acid and alkali metal hydroxide under alkaline conditions in a reaction medium comprising an aqueous solution of a water-miscible solvent. The gum is preferably guar gum or locust bean gum and the starting materials are preferably contacted at 10-100‹ C. for sufficient time to provide a DS of 0À1-3À0.
