<p>1493413 Tyre building machines DUNLOP Ltd 7 Feb 1975 [12 Feb 1974] 5212/75 Heading B7C In a tyre building machine of the type comprising an expansible drum 1, capable of shaping a tyre carcass 15 to toroidal form and mounted on a rotary shaft 4 for rotation therewith, and a pair of rotatable bells 2, 3 at the ends of the drum coaxial with the drum and axially slidable relative to the drum so that they can be brought into engagement with the carcass 15 on shaping and can then support a breaker assembly over the crown of the carcass, clutch means are provided whereby the bells can be coupled to the drum/shaft assembly for rotation therewith or rotationally disconnected from the assembly. In the illustrated construction one end of the shaft 4 is journalled in a fixed support 6 and the bell 2 at this end of the shaft can be coupled to the shaft by an electromagnetic clutch 9. At its end remote from the bell 2 the drum 1 carries a freely rotatable shaft 5 to which the bell 3 is connected by means of an Oldham coupling 14. The bell 3 can be coupled to the drum 1 for rotation therewith by engagement of a toothed ring 11 on the bell with a toothed ring 10 on a sleeve 12 axially slidable relative to the drum against the action of a spring 13. The bells 2, 3 are mounted on movable carriages 7, 8 so that they can be displaced axially relative to the drum.</p> |
