In a fuel oil burner having a main burner and an ignition burner, the main burner nozzle having an outlet opening 2 for the delivery of a divergent conical jet of atomized fuel and wall means spaced to the rear of the opening and defining with the nozzle a chamber in which the fuel stream rotates about the axis of the opening, apertures 1 are provided for directing through the outlet in the direction of flow of the main jet an auxiliary jet of an ignition fuel in the form of a hyperboloid 4 having its radial plane of smallest diameter adjacent the radial plane of the outlet opening of the main burner nozzle. The ignition fuel may be the same as the main fuel or a lighter fuel oil or a gas such as methane, propane or butane. Escaping particles of ignition fuel are re-grouped by steam, compressed air or gas. |
