1,065,840. Filter-presses. POLYSIUS S.A. R.L. March 4, 1966 [March 11, 1965], No. 9481/66. Heading B1D. In a filter-press comprising a plurality of plates 1 forming slurry inlet chambers (8) therebetween which are connected by a feed channel 7 formed by aligned central holes in plates 1, the feed channel is emptied, after the filtering step and prior to opening the press, by directing a charge of water through the channel followed by a charge of compressed air. Slurry for filtering is fed through valve 14 in fixed head 2 to which flushing outlet 15 is connected. Water supply reservoir 18 is connected to movable head 3 and has compressed air and water inlets 19, 20, the compressed air serving first to force the water 22 down conduit 17 into the press and then flowing itself through the press to remove residual water. The flow is limited to central channel 7 of the press and is stated not to re-moisten the filter cakes in chambers (8) appreciably. The filter cloths are retained on plates 1 by seals (10) round the central holes and cover grooves in the plates whereby liquid is removed during filtering. |
