The compounds of the formula: <IMAGE> and salts and esters thereof are useful agents for the treatment of bacterial infections either alone or in combination with a penicillin or cephalosporin derivative. The preceding compounds may be prepared by the hydrogenation of a compound of the formula: <IMAGE> wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an acyl group or a salt or ester thereof.
