PURPOSE:To obtain a light control element suitable for realizing an optical integrated circuit by forming plural electrodes on the surface of a semiconductor layer, impressing voltage to these electrodes to form single mode light guides, and controlling the deflection angles of light beams in accordance with impressed voltages. CONSTITUTION:Light guides 42 and plural electrodes 43 are formed on a semiconductor substrate 41, and electrodes 44 are formed on its underside. Light guides 42 due to change of refractive index caused by carrire concn. difference are formed in the lower semiconductor layre of the electrodes 43. A light incident on this light guide 42 becomes an emitted light having deflected angle corresponding to voltage impressed to the electrode 43. |
