<p>Estimation of glucose and ph in biological fluids.. G5-. Such as urine, cervical mucus and esp. blood, for use with diabetics, is effected semi-quantitatively with a composition comprising a carrier, suitably paper, natural or synthetic fibres or fabrics, rendered hydrophobic with an organo-Si cpd. of formula: (where R1-R8 are H or 1-6C alkyl, or aryl) containing an enzyme having oxydase activity for the glucose, e.g. glucoseoxydase, together with peroxydase and a suitable indicator, e.g. guaiacol, o-tolidine, which reacts with H2O2 in the presence of peroxydase. The colouration obtained is stable for some weeks and is unaffected by other colouring materials present in the blood, protein, or test paper, etc. It is thus possible to estimate glucose in the blood in amounts of 40-800 mg/100 ml semi-quantitatively.</p> |
