A microbiocidal or microbiostatic compsn. contains (1) >=1 non-microbicidally deactivated nonionic surfactant monoester of a 12C aliphatic acid and a polyol and (2) >=1 phenolic microbicide and/or a soap or detergent. (1) and (2) act synergistically. (1) aids application and also cleans. If the soap/detergent be used instead of the phenolic cpd. in (2), the compsn. may be made to "food grade". Used for foodstuffs/feedstuffs, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals as well as for bactericidal fungicidal/anti-protozoal treatment of animals (e.g. cows' teats).
