Foam-coating plastics sheet moulding in mould - by lining mould with sheet, introducing foam-forming plastics and removing

Mouldings made fom thermoplastics film or sheet are foam-coated by placing >=1 such moulding into a suitably contoured foaming mould so that (part of) the surface(s) of the moulding(s) contact the inner wall of the muld; charging the latter with foam-forming plastics; and removing the moulding(s) with the foam-coating from the mould. Pref. moulding is applied against the mould cavity by a vacuum. To render the applied vacuum more effective the edges of the moulding may be sealed w.r.t. the mould cavity wall. Used e.g. in mfr. of noice-reducing motor vehicle components such as interior cladding of car bodies, or lining for control panels.
