Suitcase with reinforcement peripheral frame - has flat section strip and metal band with beading to cover join between base and lid

The suitcase comprises an upper part and a lower part which are reinforced around their opposing edges by a peripheral frame (12) of wood or chipboard. To this is attached a flat plastics strip (13) which is designed to take a metal band (11). Opposite the free edge side the strip is a board web (14) which forms a fastening surface having a bead (15) to cover the join. This fastening surface allows the strip and the metal band to be easily connected to the frame, e.g. by stitching or adhesive. The flat strip and the metal band can be readily shaped round the corners of the suitcase so that only one step is required for fitting the metal strip and attaching the flat section strip. The position of the strip and band relative to the end edge of the suitcase can be adjusted so that a tight fit between the two parts of the suitcase will be reached.
