Carbohydrate-phenol-resol resins are obtained by reacting a carbohydrate with monohydroxybenzene, which is optionally monosubstituted by C1-C3-alkyl, C1-C3-alkoxy, halogen or hydroxyl, in the presence of a basic catalyst, and reacting the resultant intermediate with a lower aliphatic aldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst. The resins obtained are particularly suitable as adhesives for laminate (layered) materials, in particular those made from paper or wood. |
