1515862 Cross-linked polyimide coatings GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 16 May 1975 [3 June 1974] 20864/75 Heading C3R A polymeric coating is formed on a substrate by applying thereto a thin film coating of a heat-curable diamide-diacid-diamine monomeric material which is formed as the reaction product of 2 moles aromatic diamine with 1 mole aromatic dianhydride in a solvent system at below imidization temperature and then curing the coating to form a highly cross-linked polymer. It is postulated that (for the reaction product of 4,4<1>-diaminophenyl methane and benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride) the cross-linking may result from a reaction giving a product of the structure of from one giving a product of the structure and that the actual product is one resulting from a combination of both reactions taking place together. The diamide-diacid diamine monomer may be converted to its nitrogen base salt allowing the coating to be formed from an aqueous medium.
|
