<p>1515516 Cutting apparatus ALBRECHT BAUMER KG SPEZIALMASCHINENFABRIK 11 July 1975 [16 July 1974] 29299/75 Heading B4B A twin-edged cleaving machine for cutting sheets from a block 9 of foam plastics material comprises a twin-edged blade 10 mounted in a support 6, a table 5 for the block of plastics and movable relative to the blade support, the blade being supported against deflection by an elongated bar 15. The bar is held under tension in the support 6 by means of a clamping and tensioning device 20, Fig. 5. The tensioning device is mounted on slideways 31, 32 via roller bearings 26, 27 such that by means of a linkage mechanism 40, Fig. 4, actuated by a pneumatic ram 45, the bar can be moved transversely to expose the respective cutting edge (10a, 10b), Fig. 2 (not shown) depending upon which direction the block of plastics is moving. The linkage and actuator means can also pivot the bar by means of a member 30 rotatably mounted on the support 6; the degree of pivoting movement is adjustable by a stop 46, Fig. 4, such that the angle of attack of the cutting edge with respect to the block can be varied. At each traverse of the table, the support 6 is lowered by an amount equal to the required thickness of the sheet. In order to prevent the blade 10 from sagging away from the bar 15, the latter is formed with grooves (16) or (17), Fig. 2 (not shown) connected via apertures (18) or (19) and a suction head 51 to a source of vacuum; alternatively, the blade may be held by magnetic means. In modifications, the two cutting edges may be provided on separate blades (101, 102), Fig. 6 (not shown) and the cutting edge formed with tooth-like cut-outs (10a-10d), Fig. 3 (not shown).</p> |
