Cyclobutane derivs. of formula (I) and their acceptable salts with metals and amines are new: (R1 is H, 1-12C opt. branched, satd. or unsatd aliphatic hydrocarbyl, 4-7C cycloaliphatic or 7-9C araliphatic gp.; R2 is 1-10C opt. branched, satd. or unsatd. aliphatic hydrocarbyl (opt. substd. by 3-7C cycloalkyl, or 1-5C opt branched alkoxy or alkenyloxy) or 3-7C cycloalkyl opt. substd. by one or more 1-3C alkyl). The cpd. with R1 is H; R2 is n-pentyl and 15-OH in alpha configurations is excluded. Also new are the intermediates of formulae (IV)-(VIII) and (X)-(XIII). R"3 is 1-5C alkyl). (I) have hypotensive and diuretic activities; are antithrombotics; stimulants of labour and abortion; contraceptives; anti-secretaries; anti-ulcer agents and anti-asthmatics. They are esp. useful as contraceptives for humans and for regulating oestrus in animals. The daily dose is 0.5-25 mg. A typical cpd. is 1-hydroxy-2- 6-carboxy-(Z)-2-hexen-1-yl -3- 3-(RS)-hydroxy-(E)-1-- octen-1-yl cyclobutane. |
