<p>1516026 Cutting apparatus MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORP 22 Sept 1976 [24 Sept 1975] 39341/76 Heading B4B [Also in Division B3] A cutter 16 includes an anvil 37, with slots 38, a rotatable knife 39 within the anvil, an anvil support 34 pivotable between a rest position and an operative position, in which strip or cord to be cut is located in the slots 38, and means for pivoting the support and for actuating the knife when the support is in the operative position. The cutter is particularly for cutting steel-wire reinforced tyre strip 11 or 12 wound on to a drum 14 in a zig-zag pattern by traversing guides 21, 22. Cutter carrier 23 is adjustably mounted on a frame 26 by a lockable half nut 25 engaging a threaded rod 25 rotatable by a handwheel 28. Pivoted to the carrier 23 is an air cylinder 31 including a piston rod 33 pivoted at 41 to the arm 34 and to a hasp 35 connected to an extension 41 of the knife 39 by a link 42. At the end of a winding operation, the guides 21, 22 and rolls 17, 18 are withdrawn from the drum and the piston rod 33 is extended to swing the arm clockwise to the Fig. 3 position in which the strips 11 (not shown) enters the slots 38. Further movement of the piston rod depresses the hasp 35 against the action of springs 43 (44) and via the link 42 rotates the knife 39 within the anvil to cut the strip. An identical cutter may, as shown, be mounted in mirror image relation for cutting the strip 12.</p> |
