A sinker cam (26) is resiliently urged by a coil spring (33) in an inward direction to cause the sinkers to adopt an advanced position during the clearing and initial drawing movement of the needles, Fig. 2 and 6 (not shown). A similar sinker cam is provided at each feed of a multifeed machine.
