A tined baffle 70 operates to meter the flow of material over the top of roll 50. Disentegrated foodstuffs receive an auger 74 from structure 48 is conveyed to a side of the machine. An input drive-shaft 26 coupled with the power take off mechanism of a towing vehicle (not shown) drives endless chain 112 via sprocket 104, the chain 12 acting to drive sprockets 106, 108 and 110 belonging to shafts of auger 74 and rolls 50, 52 respectively. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 10, a metering means in the form of rotor 116 is provided in lieu of tined baffle 70 of the first embodiment.
