Emergency landing apparatus for an aircraft A comprises a container 1 mounted on the fuselage and formed with nose portions 2 hinged to open to the dotted line positions shown in Fig. 2 under the action of mechanism 7-10 against the action of a restraining spring 6, whereby air flow may lift off the releasable upper part la of the container to enable a parachute 11 and rigging lines 12 enclosed thereby to be ejected. The rigging lines are connected by a ring 13 to a lift line 14 in turn connected to a pair of lines 19 attached to the wings and to a line 22 which is normally wound on a reel 21. The mechanism 7-10 may be operated from within the aircraft or it may be activated by a remote transmitted control signal. |
