An improved raw felt material having a high degree of strength and flexibility and increased bulk. The raw felt is used in producing an asphalt roofing cover. The felt is formed from an adhesively bonded porous non-woven sheet of an inorganic fibrous material and has finally divided vulcanized rubber particles distributed within the fibrous material.
