<p>1492044 Adjusting vehicle headlamps LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 17 March 1975 [30 March 1974] 14218/74 Heading F4R In an arrangement for tilting vehicle headlamps about a horizontal axis in response to changes in attitude of a suspended part of the vehicle, means for sensing such changes includes lever 16 pivotally mounted at 17 on a suspended part of the vehicle and, in the operative condition of the assembly, biased by spring 21 into engagement with member 23 mounted on the wheel axle, and manually operable means is provided for moving lever 16 out of engagement with member 23 to render the tilting mechanism inoperative, e.g. when the headlamps are switched off. As shown, switch 39 which when closed energizes the lamp filaments, also supplies current to heating element 34, causing fluid 35 to extend, bellows 35 to contract against the bias of spring 40 and accordingly in the operative condition stop 36 does not abut arm 37 of lever 16. When the lamps are switched off, contraction of fluid 35 causes stop 36 to engage arm 37 and rotate lever 16 out of engagement with member 23, the effect of spring 40 overriding that of spring 21. Member 23 may be the output rod of a sensor of a temperature compensating means as disclosed in Specification 1,485,831.</p> |
