<p>A toy knitting machine to knit yarn in loops around a continuous plastic grid frame consists of a crank handle, a feed mechanism for the frame and a needle which moves up and down and has a hook at the end. By coordinating a reciprocating movement with a twisting movement the yarn can be fixed in loops to the frame. The rotation of a crank on a wheel of the drive shaft turns a contrate wheel and through a gear wheel the disc which has a radial slot. A crosspiece with a pin which engages in this slot has a toothed rack in engagement with a gear wheel. This turns the needle with the hook at a certain point of its up and down stroke. All movements are derived from a simple turning of a crank handle.</p> |
