Washing machine water outlet pipe valve - prevents return flow of dirty water to wash tub

A non-return valve (13) is housed in the fitting (15) which forms part of the outlet from the pump of a washing machine or a dish-washer. The hollow valve head (30) is hemispherical and has finger shaped guides (33). When the pump is operating, water flows into the inlet (18) and pushes the valve head (30) off the seat formed by the sealing ring (28). When the pump is switched off, the valve head (30) floats upwards and seals against the seat (28) so that dirty water cannot flow back and soil clothes in the washtub. A retaining ring (34) prevents the valve head (30) from falling out of the housing (25).
