<p>Detectors in a gyroscope sense the position of the inertia wheel relative to the support structure. These detectors comprise windings on a cylindrical rod magnetic core with a single pole face to simplify manufacture compared with U-shaped cores. A detector to sense relative position of two parts (1, 2) comprises a magnetic core (3) of cylindrical section (4) and is mounted in a bore hole (8) in one of the parts (1). The remote end (5) forms a pole face which defines an air gap (6) with the other part (2) whose position is being sensed. A winding (7) surrounds the core and is powered by alternating current of 1000 Hz.</p> |
