Porous cylindrical bodies having uniform pore size - composed of pretreated metal whiskers, used for filtering fluids and as heating elements

The production of cylindrical or hollow cylindrical porous bodies composed of interlocked polycrystalline metal whiskers comprises mixing the metal whiskers with a powder of non-metallic material, heating the mixt. in an O-free atmos. to a temp. at which the whiskers are ductile, mixing the mixt. again vigorously, sepg. the whiskers from the powder and compacting the whiskers in a mould at a pressure at which the soft annealed whiskers will interlock and deform. Method avoids using whiskers which are bunched together and gives bodies having uniform pore size.
