The safety ski stick has a leather or plastics strap which forms a closed loop (25), (26) that is located around the wrist of the skier. The two ends of the strap are attached to a bracket (29) which is provided with an anchor wedge (32) at its location end. When the ski stick is in normal use, a leaf spring (15), located inside the top end of the ski stick retains the anchor bracket of the wrist strap in its location. An excessive pulling force on the wrist strap (25) causes the hooked end of the leaf spring (18) to be deflected, thus releasing the strap from the stick. By pushing the bracket wedge (32) into its location, the ski stick is reusable again.
