1,136,290. Polymer compositions. PPG INDUSTRIES Inc. 19 Dec., 1966 [21 Dec., 1965], No. 56655/66. Heading C3P. [Also in Division B2] A coating composition comprises (1) a polymer of vinylidene fluoride and (2) an aldehydemodified interpolymer of an unsaturated carboxylic acid amide with at least one other comonomer. The amide is modified with aldehyde before or after polymerization, preferably formaldehyde is used to introduce a methylol group on the amide nitrogen, and this may be etherified. The amide is preferably acrylamide, in the examples, it is copolymerized with methacrylic acid acrylonitrile or styrene, and ethylacrylate in solution and reacted with formaldehyde in butanol. The vinylidene fluoride polymer is preferably a homopolymer or may be a copolymer with another halogenated ethylene. The polymers are blended or mixed in solution; other resins and pigments may be added. The composition is used in solution, e.g. in isophorone or butyrolactone.
|
