The switching arrangement for use in a motor vehicle is used for disconnecting a battery from the electrical equipment in case of an accident. Between the battery and the vehicle circuit is fitted a switch opened by a solenoid. The winding of the solenoid is directly connected with one terminal of the battery. Alternatively, the solenoid can be connected to a special low current source and via a delay switch which responds to the vehicle high retardation for connecting it to a second terminal of the battery. The arrangement may have a changeover switch which responds when the vehicle tends to turn over. The switch has a contact held on the armature which is actuated by the solenoid.
