The telephone exchange selectors (W13-W46) in all or in some of the stages have an additional device which indicates the selector position. A central device interrogates the positions of selectors. The access to the selectors through wiring and cables is stored in the central device. Th e route is determined in the central device from selectors preceding or following a selector and by using the stored information and the instantaneous position of selectors. The selection routine may take the form of an angular position setter, in which a coding disc with sector zones (0-15) works in conjunction with four pick-up brushes (A, B, C, D).
