[Also in Division A3] Apparatus for cutting out a neck opening in a garment, e.g. a pullover, formed from a thermoplastic material comprises a bust-shaped hollow steel former 2 with a flattened top having an aperture 3 slightly larger than the opening to be cut-out, an electrical resistance heater, in the form of a closed wire loop, acting as a cutter and shaped to the required opening, a pedal operated linkage (8-10) for displacing the cutter vertically through the aperture to cut the garment, and a pedal-operated transparent reference plate for centring the garment on the former. A waste tube 13 provided with a suction device 14 conveys waste material and fumes from the apparatus, the suction effect being linked to the cutter so that when the cutter is inoperative the garment may be adjusted freely on the former. |
