<p>The locking mechanism is driven by an electric motor, the armature of which may be used as an energy-store i.e. a flywheel. Lost motion is built into the mechanism to permit radial acceleration of the motor before the locking action commences. For locking, a pinion acts on a rack pushing a cylinder downwards, closing the gap between the cylinder and a disc. On reaching the disc the cylinder acts through a spring to pull rod downwards, actuating the lock through a lever. For unlocking the cylinder accelerates upwards until it meets the disc which is attached to the rod.</p> |
