1514423 Electric couplings AMP INC 16 Dec 1976 [17 Jan 1976] 01846/76 Heading H2E A connector similar to that disclosed in 1,401,383 (H2) for joining or making connections to insulated wires has an insulating housing containing a pair of metal plates (shown as joined by a bridge 2) having slots 9 into each of which an insulated wire, not shown, may be inserted, the edges of the slots cutting through the insulation and making connection to the conductive core of the wire and a wire-severing edge 11, the location of which is indicated by the absence (or, in an alternative arrangement, the presence) of a boss 12. The wires not shown are urged into slots 9 by projections 10 on lid 3, and one wire is severed by 11, on closing the lid. Further severing edges may be provided if the connector is to be used for joining cables instead of tapping. The portions of the housing between slots 9 and the adjacent end wall of the housing or wire severing edges 11 may contain grease or a similar sealant. In manufacture, a plurality of housings may be made in a continuous strip (Fig. 6, not shown) being joined by the projections 12, and sub. sequently cut off for use as required. |
