<p>A metal ring for reinforcing the bead of a pneumatic tyre is mounted on a circular support whose diameter is variable and an elastic annulus is supported in a generally cylindrical shape on a transfer element which can be moved to position the annulus against an annular support so that the annulus takes up a truly annular shape around the periphery of the ring. The face of annular support against which the annulus rests is inclined and the annulus is moved off this face so that it resiliently locates (and becomes fixed) around the periphery of the ring. When the ring is attached to the tyre carcass reinforcing plies are folded around the ring and the annulus separates the folded over ends of the plies form the main region of the plies. Previous manual operations are automated thereby increasing production speeds.</p> |
