Thermal perchlorination of hydrocarbons and partly chlorinated hydrocarbons in the vapour phase at elevated temps. and pressure is carried out by (a) producing a gaseous mixture contg. chlorinated hydrocarbons, hydrochloric acid and unreacted chlorine, (b) cooling this mixture, (c) passing the cooled gaseous mixture into a partial condensation zone maintained at a gauge pressure of 4,2-15 kg/cm2, and a final temp. of 55 degrees C, in order to condense the chlorinated hydrocarbons in the mixture, and (d) withdrawing from this zone a gaseous mixture contg. hydrochloric acid and chlorine. Specifically, thermal perchlorination is carried out at a pressure of 7-10.5 kg/cm2. The partial condensation zone is maintained at a pressure of 6.85-10.15 kg/cm2, and a final temp of 35-55 degrees C. The gaseous mixture contg. hydrochloric acid and chlorine withdrawn from the partial condensation zone may be introduced as raw-material into reaction zone consuming hydrochloric acid, and/or into a reaction zone consuming chlorine. The gaseous mixture contg. the hydrochloric acid and chlorine is pref. mixed with ethylene, and the mixture subjected to chlorination conditions to form ethylene dichloride. The product is then passed into an ethylene oxychlorination zone. The gaseous mixt. contg. the hydrochloric acid and chlorine may also be supplied to a methane oxychlorination zone, in which the pressure is lower than in the partial condensation zone.
|
