A solution in a polar organic solvent of a copolymer of acrylonitrile and vinylidene chloride with a chlorine content of 20 to 60% is stabilized by at least 0.01% by weight of the copolymer, of a dissolved Zn salt of an alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or alicyclic sulphinic acid having no -OH group on the a -carbon atom, a carboxylic acid containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms, an inorganic acid or a mercaptan. Solvents specified are dimethyl formamide and dimethyl acetamide. The former is used in the examples, in which the stabilizers are zinc methyl sulphinate, zinc monochloromethyl sulphinate, zinc 2 - chloroethyl sulphinate, zinc phenylsulphide, zinc p-toluene sulphinate, zinc dodecyl mercaptan, zinc thioglycol, zinc thiophenol, zinc 4-t.-butyl thiophenol, zinc 2-mercaptobenzimidazole, zinc 2-mercaptobenzothiazole <FORM:1087955/C3/1> ZnI2, zinc thiobenzoate, ZnBr2, ZnCl2, Zn(NO3)2, Zn3(BO3)2, Zn(BF4)2, ZnSiF6, ZnSO3, Zn3(PO4)2 and Zn(OCOCH3)2; zinc levulinate crotonate, n-butyrate, iso-butyrate, 5-t.-butyl salicylate, formate, benzoate, phosphite and hypophosphite. Films are extruded from the solutions. |
