Continuous elastomeric films are made from an aq. mixt. contg. an elastomer latex and a phenolic resin, by (1) spraying the mixt. onto a surface having a temp. of >48.9 deg C, in such an amt. that a base film 0.018 mm. thick is formed and the adhesion between the surface and the film is the cohesion within the film, and (2) spraying a number of additional layers onto the base layer such that each additional layer is 0.018 mm. thick, to give a continuous, uniform, essentially water-free film 0.12 mm. thick, esp. 0.102-0.584 mm. thick. The films are esp. useful for treating the props. of glass fibres intended for use as tyre cords, to overcome the inconveniences of in situ or laboratory testing.
|
