<p>The tubes of a vertical bundle making up a heat exchanger are fixed into the tube-plate using a flexible connecting piece. This piece is made up to 2 cylindrical sleeves, the one fitting over the other to give a flattened Z-shape in section. Alternatively the connector can be moulded in one piece. The inner dia. of the larger part is slightly less than the outer dia. of the tube so that the tube fits tightly in the connector and seats against the lip where the smaller part starts. The smaler part of the connector has an outer dia. slightly larger than the dia. of the hole in the tube-plate, so that the connector fits tightly in the hole. This smaller sleeve part can be made of e.g. asbestos. If required the larger dia. part can have an extended length to guide the axial displacement of the tube end. In a large bundle the larger dia. parts are sized so that all adjacent connectors tough to give mutual support. Used in heat exchangers especially ones with boro-silicate glass tubes fitting into metal, e.g. stainless steel tube-plate. The tubes do not fall through the holes if the lower connecting socket deteriorates or is destroyed.</p> |
