Pictures which change their form with temperature can be made from liquid crystals. The refractive property of these liquid crystals changes with changing temperature resulting in a change in the colour of crystals. A picture is formed on a suitable backing material such as paper or plastic film by applying a layer of liquid crystals which change colour on being heated to 22 deg. C. A second and third layer of liquid crystals are applied. Each layer forms a different picture and changes colour at 26 deg. C and 30 deg. C. respectively. As an example, the first layer shows the picture of an egg at 22 deg. C which changes to a picture of a young chick at 26 deg. C and then to a fully grown chicken at 30 deg. C. When heat is applied electrically a low voltage resistor may be used.
