The machine thrusts the nut axially into a nest of three, equally-spaced, fixed knives which cut through the fibre but not into the shell, so that the knives then support the nut while the fibre is stripped away. This is effected by three stripping hooks between the knives. The three knives are fixed to a common support which is pushed in a direction opposing the thrust exerted on the nut, but with a force less than teh principal thrust. the opposing push on the common support can be derived fr a spring or a power cylinder and is sufficient to foce the knives through the fibre, without cutting the shell. The magnitude of the axial thrust on the nut is pref. decreased as the stripping hooks come into contact with the shell. The stripping hooks are pref. brought into action at a pre-determined position of the knives. Each stripping hook pref. grips fibre in an automatic jaw as stripping commences. The machine is now self-adapting to a wide range of sizes of coconut. Even the smallest nuts are completely stripped.
