Poor sealing on tubes in surface condensers with expanded tubes held in tube plates is traced by taking a small stream of vapour from the main flow and allowing it to flow down the inside of the tube plate. Here is condenses and is drained off. It is then analysed for impurities. If this contains no impurities, it can be refed into the system otherwise it is discharged to drain. The system works by having a baffle at a distance from the tube plate, through which the tubes pass and which has clearances from the tubes. Condensate running down the inside surface of the tube plate is then checked for dissolved solids which would indicate a leak. Used on power station surface condensers where cooling water contamination of boiler feed is deleterious.
|
