Rotary IC engine with perpendicular positioned rotors - has compression cylinders inside rotors and timing gears between them

The engine has two identical rotors (22, 24) attached to shafts (26, 28) perpendicular to each other. Each rotor has two projecting blades (96, 98, 104, 106) which leave recesses (110, 112, 105, 107) between them on the periphery of the rotor. As the rotors turn the blades of one pass through the recesses of the other to form variable volume working chambers with the inside of the casing. The two shafts (26, 28) are connected by a train of bevel and spur gears which keep their movements in time with each other. The rotors are hollow and have vanes forming air compressors inside them. The inlet (94, 102) to each compressor is concentric round the shaft (26, 28) and the discharge (100, 108) is through the circumferential walls of the projecting blades (96, 98, 104, 106). This provides effective cooling of the rotors.
