The camera has both a focusing device for the image of the subject to be taken in the film plane, and a focusing display device. In order for the user of the camera to be given a clear display of the respectively set distance, the display device consists of an acoustic signalling device which is switched on over a prescribed time internal and has an audio oscillator (6-10). In accordance with the respectively set distance or distance range, the acoustic signalling device emits a signal characterising the latter.
