<p>New symmetrical halogenated ethers are cpds. of the formula R-CHF-O-CHF-R (I). In this formula R is a gp. CH3-nXn in which n is 1, 2 or 3, and each X (same or different) is F, Cl, Br, I, CF3, perfluoroalkyl, perfluoroalkoxy, or a perfluoropolyalkyl ether residue with up to 9 C-atoms, provided that R is other than CHF2 or CH2Cl. (I) and their diastereomeric mixtures have effects on the brain, having a narcotic or sedative action after admin. by inhalation, by injection or orally, depending on mol.wt. Specific cpds. (I) include CF3-CHF-O-CHF-CF3. In an example, this is prepd. from trifluoroacetaldehyde and Et2N-SF3 in dry toluene.</p> |
